Recently, I encountered a message upon logging into GoDaddy indicating that the current operating system has reached end-of-life (EOL) and is no longer supported by its vendor.
Full message is as follows:
Unsupported Operating System
The operating system you are currently running has reached end-of-life (EOL) and is longer supported by their vendor. This operating system is no longer available for provisioning and technical support may be limited. Learn more here.
I called GoDaddy helpline (02) 8042 8920, and the agent informed that this issue is within Full Service Management Team’s scope and transferred me there. They further mentioned that my current plan has only 4 months left in the current subscription.
Considering the potential need to change the VPS server, I identified a few key factors to consider when selecting a new one:
Operating System Version:
My current plan utilizes CentOS 7, an older version. This became apparent when attempting to deploy a ReactJS Web App, as I had to downgrade my frontend code to match the supported version. When choosing a new VPS, it’s crucial to consider the compatibility of the operating system with the technologies you intend to use.
Customer Support:
GoDaddy provides helpline support but lacks online chat. While the helpline has been helpful in certain instances, there have been frustrating experiences with long waiting times and responses indicating limited capabilities. Comparatively, Bluehost’s shared hosting customer support is commendable, but their VPS support can sometimes yield similar disappointments with limited assistance provided.
